Elmira has a strong African American history and some of it was captured by our own Mother Hughey. She was part of a grant from NYS and the Chemung Historical Society that interviewed African Americans who were living in Elmira and who contributed to the betterment of our area.

WSKG-TV featured Wilbur Reid who happens to be the father of Faith Temple Community Church member Randy Reid. Parts of the story uses audio from the interview Mother Hughey conducted back in 1989.
